SPONSOR a SCHOOL-desk
There's
a big shortage of school necessities and furniture at the Selela
schools, the town we chose as our purpose to begin with. With your
financial support the Tanzania Support Foundation can make a start to
improve these circumstances.
The
largest of the three schools, the Primary School with almost 1.200
pupils, had a shortage of more than 100 school-desks (each suitable for
3 or 4 pupils). So a large amount of pupils had to sit on the floor out of
necessity. The new Ndinyika primary school in the rural area outside
Selela only had 7 desks. The people in Selela can
produce the desks by themselves, but can't afford the necessary wood.
Wood is scarce and as a result expensive in Tanzania.
In 2011 our campaign: 'Sponsor a School-desk for Selela' raised € 2,000.- which was enough for 100 school-desks. The desks were produced by local carpenters and were delivered in April and November 2011: 30 at the Ndinyika annex and 70 at Selela Primary school.
In June 2013 70 more desks have been made, of which 22 have been delivered at Selela primary school and 48 at the primary schoo of Mbaashi, part of the Selela community, but located at a distance of about 16 km. But more than 30 are still needed. Tanzania Support feels challenged to get those sponsored as well!
In comparison to last year, the price of wood has risen and the exchange rate of the dollar is less favourable, so the production costs are € 30.00 per desk now.
The number of donated desks is: 170 (situation on November 14, 2013).
Two deliveries of 50 desks each and one of 70 desks have been made, see for more information: Results.
